# Replace people or objects with Genjutsu

> Use motion transfer and object swap, check upload requirements, and troubleshoot source video recognition in the Genjutsu mini app.

**Carat Genjutsu** is a mini app that uses motion from a source video to change people, characters, or objects. [Open the Genjutsu mini app](https://carat.im/apps/genjutsu) to get started.

This guide applies to `/apps/genjutsu`. Genjutsu accepts your own source motion video; its inputs differ from the [NEON challenge](https://carat.im/docs/en/how-to-use/neon-dance-challenge.md).

## What is the difference between the two modes?

| Mode | Use it when you want to… |
| - | - |
| **Motion Transfer** | Transfer movement from the source video to a person or character in your reference images. |
| **Object Swap** | Replace a subject in the source video with a person, character, or object from your reference images. |

## How do I create a video?

1. Open [Genjutsu](https://carat.im/apps/genjutsu) and sign in to Carat.
2. Select **Motion Transfer** or **Object Swap**.
3. Upload the source video in the **motion video** input.
4. Add reference images of the person, character, or object you want in the result.
5. Optionally enable **Prompt** and describe the change, such as “Replace the person in the source video with the cat character in the reference image.”
6. Select **Quality**, check the access and credit information shown in the app, and select **Create**.

Use a source video with clearly visible movement and reference images with a clear view of the subject. Generation does not guarantee an exact reproduction of every movement or visual detail.

## Which files and quality settings are supported?

| Item | Supported range |
| - | - |
| Source motion video | MP4 or MOV; 4–30 seconds; up to 200 MB |
| Reference images | Up to 30 images |
| Quality settings | 480p, 720p, and 1080p |

These options were verified in the actual mini app on **October 29, 2026**. Check the available options and file requirements shown when you use the app.

## How do I use an example as a starting point?

You can start from an example's **remix/follow-along** action. Before creating, check the source video, reference images, and mode in the input area, and prepare images of the person or character you want to use.

Viewing an example and generating your own result are separate actions. Review the inputs and select **Create** to generate your result.

## I see a thumbnail, but the app says it cannot find the source video

A thumbnail can appear even when the source video has not been recognized as usable for generation.

1. Check that the file is MP4 or MOV, 4–30 seconds long, and no larger than 200 MB.
2. Remove the source video from the input area, upload it again, and check whether the upload finishes or an error appears.
3. If the error persists or **Create** remains unavailable, contact support with the details below.

This error alone does not prove that your file is damaged or that your device is at fault. Tell support if you have already tried both desktop and mobile. Have the source recognition issue checked rather than repeating the same attempts.

## Will changing the model or upgrading my subscription fix it?

Genjutsu's **mode and quality settings** are different from **model selection in regular AI chat**. Changing the chat model is not a troubleshooting step for Genjutsu source video recognition errors.

An additional subscription is not a confirmed solution to a source recognition error. The affected job or input needs to be checked when recognition or generation fails.

## I have no result, or credits were deducted without a video

Check the generation status and any error message. Videos under **Example results** do not mean your own job has completed.

If credits were deducted without a result, or the job failed or was cancelled, contact support to check the job and credit deduction and return records. A generation failure should not be assumed to be a normal model limitation, and an automatic refund cannot be guaranteed from this guide.

## How do I contact support?

Follow [Contact support](https://carat.im/docs/en/troubleshooting/general-support/how-to-contact-support.md), or email [help@carat.im](mailto:help@carat.im), with:

* **Feature:** Genjutsu — [https://carat.im/apps/genjutsu](https://carat.im/apps/genjutsu)
* The email or nickname of the Carat account you used
* Your selected mode and the source video's format, duration, and size
* The approximate date and time, error message, or screenshot
* Your device, browser, and steps already attempted
* Any available deduction details if credits are affected

You do not need to resend details already provided. You do not need to create a regular AI chat share link to report a mini app issue.
