What Are Anime-to-Real Character Prompts?

These prompts convert a 2D anime character into a believable human. The trick is to write two separate lists: what to keep, and what to drop. Keep the identity cues that make the character recognizable — hair silhouette, hair color, costume symbols (school tie, high collar, ribbon), eye color, scars. Drop the anime-specific rendering — oversized eyes, narrow jaw, matte flat skin, cel shading, outlines. Skip either list and you get one of two failures: a picture that still looks drawn, or a realistic stranger.

Three Reasons Anime-to-Real Fails

1. You never set eye size. Anime eyes survive onto a human face and land in the uncanny valley. State normal human eye size, real iris texture.
2. You only set hair color. It reads as a wig. Add visible root shadow, strand separation, slight frizz so it reads as dyed hair.
3. You wrote "photorealistic" but no camera. Without a lens, aperture and light direction the model drifts back to illustration. Add 85mm lens, f/1.8, key light at 45 degrees.

Prompt Order That Works

Subject (gender, age, ethnicity) → identity cues to keep → anime traits to drop → skin and hair texture → camera (lens mm, f-stop) → light direction → framing and ratio. In this order the model locks the character first and layers realism on top. Reverse it and you get a realistic person who is not your character.

Notes by Character Type

• Shonen lead — keep the uniform silhouette and hair part; add peach fuzz on the jaw and faint undereye shadow. 85mm at f/1.8, waist-up.
• Magical girl / idol — specify real fabric (matte material, stitching, wrinkles), otherwise the costume renders as plastic cosplay.
• White or silver hair — root shadow and visible scalp remove the wig look. Side light with a dark background preserves tonal steps in silver hair.
• Glasses characters — add lens reflections and a slight nose-pad indent so the frames sit on the face instead of floating.

Negative Prompts Worth Reusing

Append no cel shading, no outlines, no anime eyes, no smooth plastic skin, no illustration texture. To push realism up, add visible skin pores, individual eyelashes, photographic film grain, natural color grading. Use 3:4 for half-body portraits and 1:1 for close-ups.
