Place hands right in front of the camera lens, with focus on the faces of the people behind. This throws the hands in the foreground out of focus and maximizes the sense of depth.
The key pose and staging: use both hands right in front of the lens to form a big heart shape. The blurred heart-shaped hands act as a kind of "frame," creating a frame-in-frame effect that naturally pulls the viewer's eye to the two people in the center. The hands should take up only about 20% of the total area. In the center of the frame, the two people rest their heads together affectionately so a strong sense of closeness and bond comes through.
Use a 3:4 ratio and keep the faces as close to the original photos as possible. Keep the background mostly out of view with a tight close-up, and let the small bit of visible background show a clear blue sky. The people's faces should fill about 80% of the whole image. Do not alter the people's faces.
Photo grading: Warm color temperature (amber/sepia tint): cover the whole image in a deep, warm yellow or sepia tone for a sun-faded feel. Raise the color temperature noticeably.
